Course Description
Directed group study of selected topics for advanced students. Open to undergraduate and graduate students. Total credit limited to 8 units. 1–4 lectures. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.

This “Foundations” course provides an overview of sustainable business theory and practice. It examines three broad topics: The Business Case for Sustainability; Emerging Conceptual Frameworks, and Sustainability Reporting Systems including both company reporting and emerging global standards. Students will apply the core concepts of Strategy, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, and Operations, and integrate them with sustainability principles for both business advantage and service to the community and the ecosystem. Student teams will work with company to analyze a sustainability initiative. Each team will work with a company liaison to develop a proposal, complete a diagnostic interview, an issues and opportunity matrix, and prepare a recommendation and action plan.
